Privacy policy
Last updated: 20 October 2026
TELF isn't out yet. The app is still in development and hasn't been released. This policy describes how the website and waitlist work today, and how we plan for the app to work. We'll update it before launch to reflect any changes.
We built TELF to help you lift properly, not to collect your data. This policy explains, in plain English, what information we collect, why, and the choices you have.
1. The short version
- Your workouts stay on your iPhone (and your own iCloud, if you switch sync on). We don't keep a copy on our servers.
- We never sell your personal information, and we don't use it for third-party advertising.
- Apple Health data is only used with your permission, only to make TELF work for you, and never for advertising or sold.
- Anything you post in the Community is public to other TELF users. Share cards only leave your phone when you choose to share them.
- The website has no tracking cookies and no analytics.
- You can ask us to see, correct, export or delete your information at any time: info@telfapp.com.
2. Who we are
TELF (Track. Educate. Lift. Focus.) is a gym app for iPhone and Apple Watch. TELF is run by TELF LLC, an Arizona limited liability company based in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA. In this policy, "TELF", "we", "us" and "our" mean TELF LLC, an Arizona limited liability company.
For the purposes of UK and EU data protection law, we are the "controller" of the personal information described in this policy. This means we decide how and why it is used, and we're responsible for looking after it.
This policy covers the website telfapp.com, the waitlist, emails you send us, and the TELF app.
Questions? Email info@telfapp.com.
3. What we collect
On the website
- Waitlist sign-ups: the email address you enter, the date and time you joined, the page you joined from, your browser type, and, if you arrived through a friend's link (such as telfapp.com/?ref=name), that referral code. We use the referral code only to see which friends helped spread the word. To remember a referral code while you browse the site, we store it in your browser's local storage; it never leaves your device unless you join the waitlist.
- Server logs: like any website, our host automatically processes technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, and the pages requested. This is needed to deliver the site and keep it secure.
- Emails you send us: your email address, name (if included) and whatever you write.
Cookies and analytics: telfapp.com does not set any tracking or advertising cookies and doesn't use any analytics tools, tracking pixels or social media trackers. If that ever changes, we'll update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
In the app
- Workout data: exercises, sets, weights, reps, rest times, notes, personal records and any body stats you choose to enter (such as body weight or measurements). This is stored on your device.
- Apple Health data (optional): if you give permission, TELF can read and write data such as workouts, active energy, heart rate and body measurements through Apple Health. You choose exactly which types in your iPhone's Health settings, and you can change this at any time.
- Apple Watch (optional): if you use the Watch app, your workouts and related readings (such as heart rate during a session) are synced between your Watch and iPhone.
- iCloud sync (optional): if you switch it on, your TELF data is stored in your own private iCloud account, run by Apple. We can't see it.
- Community (optional): if you use the Community, we hold your username, profile details you add, posts, comments and votes, plus reports you make about other content.
- Share cards: workout summary images are created on your device and only shared when you tap share and pick where they go.
- Subscriptions: purchases are handled entirely by Apple. Apple tells us whether a subscription is active, but we never see your name, card or payment details.
- Crash and diagnostic data (optional): only if you've agreed to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings. Apple provides this to us in a form that doesn't directly identify you.
- Support messages: anything you send us when you ask for help.
We don't collect your precise location, contacts or photos, and we don't use advertising identifiers to track you across other apps and websites.
4. Why we use it, and our legal bases
We only use your information for the reasons below. UK and EU law (the GDPR) requires us to tell you the "legal basis" for each.
- To tell you when TELF launches (waitlist emails). Basis: consent, which you give by joining. You can withdraw it at any time.
- To provide the app and its features: logging workouts, progress charts, coaching tips, syncing with your Watch and iCloud, and your subscription. Basis: contract, because we need it to give you the service you've asked for.
- To use Apple Health data for your training insights. Health information is a special category of data, so the basis is your explicit consent, given through Apple's Health permissions. You can withdraw it in the Health app at any time.
- To run the Community: showing your posts, comments and votes to other users, and keeping it safe and respectful (including moderating content and dealing with reports). Basis: contract and our legitimate interests in running a safe community.
- To fix bugs and improve TELF using crash and diagnostic data. Basis: your consent, given through Apple's settings, and our legitimate interests in a reliable app.
- To keep the website secure and stop spam. Basis: our legitimate interests.
- To reply to your messages. Basis: our legitimate interests in helping you, or contract if it's about your subscription.
- To meet legal obligations, such as keeping records or responding to lawful requests. Basis: legal obligation.
We don't use your information for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you. Training suggestions in the app (such as when to add weight) are just suggestions.
5. TELF Approved links
The Community may show "TELF Approved" product picks, clearly marked as sponsored. These links may include an affiliate code, which means we may earn a commission if you buy something. Using one doesn't cost you more.
We don't send your personal information to retailers. When you tap a link you leave TELF, and the retailer's own privacy policy and cookies apply to anything you do on their site.
6. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We only share it with:
- Cloudflare, which hosts telfapp.com and delivers the website to you.
- Google, which stores waitlist sign-ups in a private Google Sheet (via Google Apps Script) that only we can access.
- Email providers: our domain provider, Porkbun, forwards email sent to telfapp.com addresses, and our mailbox is hosted by Google (Gmail). Waitlist sign-up alerts and your messages to us pass through these services.
- Apple, which provides the App Store, subscriptions, Apple Health, iCloud and crash reports. Apple's use of your information is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
- Any provider we use to run the Community (such as a secure database host). We'll name it here before the Community goes live.
- Other TELF users, but only the Community content you choose to post, and the share cards you choose to send.
- Authorities or advisers, if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or others.
- A new owner, if TELF is ever sold or transferred. They'd have to protect your information in line with this policy, and we'd tell you first.
Our service providers may only use your information to provide their services to us.
7. Apple Health data
Apple Health data gets extra protection. In line with Apple's rules, data from Apple Health:
- is only used to provide TELF's health and fitness features to you;
- is never used for advertising or marketing, and never sold or given to data brokers;
- is not copied into iCloud sync by TELF (it stays in Apple Health, which handles its own syncing), and is never shared with third parties without your express permission.
8. How long we keep it
- Waitlist: until TELF launches and we've told you about it, then for up to 12 months in case of follow-up launch news, unless you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it sooner.
- Workout data on your device: stays until you delete it or delete the app. If you use iCloud sync, it stays in your iCloud until you remove it.
- Community content: kept while your account is open. If you delete a post, comment or your account, we delete it, apart from copies we must keep for a short time for safety, legal reasons or backups.
- Emails and support messages: up to two years after the conversation ends, unless we need them longer to deal with a dispute.
- Server logs: kept by our hosting provider for a limited period under its own retention rules.
9. Keeping it secure
We use sensible technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, keeping most app data on your device rather than on our servers, two-step verification on our accounts and limiting access to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but if something goes wrong that affects you we'll tell you and the relevant authorities where the law requires it.
10. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct anything that's wrong or incomplete;
- delete your information;
- export your information in a common, machine-readable format (portability);
- stop or limit how we use it, or object to uses based on legitimate interests;
- withdraw consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from waitlist emails or turning off Apple Health access. This doesn't affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
Much of this you can do yourself: your workout data lives on your device, so you can edit or delete it in the app at any time. Once the app is live you'll also be able to delete your Community account in the app.
UK and EU residents
You have the rights above under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority. In the UK, that's the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). In the EU, it's the authority in the country where you live or work. We'd appreciate the chance to sort things out first, so please get in touch.
California and other US states
If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to delete it; to correct it; to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing"; and to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We don't sell or share personal information as those terms are defined, and we only use sensitive information (such as health data) to provide the service you asked for. We won't treat you differently for using your rights. Residents of other US states with privacy laws have similar rights, and we'll honour them in the same way.
How to make a request
Email info@telfapp.com with "Privacy request" in the subject. We may need to check it's really you before we act, and we'll reply within one month (or within the time the law in your area allows). An authorised agent can make a request for you with your written permission.
11. International transfers
TELF is run from the United States, and our service providers (including Cloudflare, Google and Apple) may process information in the US and other countries. Those countries may have different data protection laws from yours. Where we transfer personal information from the UK or EU, we rely on recognised safeguards, such as the UK-US Data Bridge and EU-US Data Privacy Framework (where the provider is certified), or standard contractual clauses offered by our providers.
12. Children
TELF is not for children. You must be at least 13 to use TELF, or at least 16 if you live in the UK or the European Union. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under these ages. If you think a child has given us their information, please email info@telfapp.com and we'll delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy when TELF changes, and before the app launches. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we make a significant change, we'll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect.
14. Contact us
For any question about this policy or your personal information, email info@telfapp.com. We usually reply within two working days.
TELF is run by TELF LLC, an Arizona limited liability company, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA.
